New low loss cPCI switch blade offers pluggable, full matrix optical switching where needed.
Cambridge, UK, July 8 2006 – Polatis, a world leading supplier of all-optical switching products, announces the release of a new standards-compliant Optical Switch Blade (OSB) product, providing small form factor switching capabilities to the Government, Defense, and test & Measurement Markets.
Designed in compliance with Compact PCI (cPCI) standards, the OSB is the world’s first product to offer fully non-blocking matrix switch capabilities in a cPCI format. The OSB can be fitted in any cPCI complaint chassis, offering a pluggable solution for all-optical switching. There are many benefits to having a pluggable solution, the most poignant being the ability to meet changing needs and requirements of a network, thus eliminating the development investments usually encountered when system requirements change. As with other Polatis switch products, Optical performance remains world-class, with insertion loss <1.0dB.
This solution is ideal for chassis-based test and measurement equipment suppliers, providing them flexible, plug and play optical test solutions, extending system test capabilities. In government communications networks, where security and privacy are paramount, the OSB enables operators to maintain signals in the optical domain, enhancing security. Service providers and telecom equipment manufacturers may also take advantage of the cPCI-complaint blade in instances where transparent switching is needed.
The OSB is available in 4x4, 4x8 and 8x 8 port configurations, and can also be used as a reconfigurable switch, providing asymmetric port configurations via software command. 3RU and 6RU cards in both single and double width are available. Polatis offers a variety of switch blade products, supporting dual Ethernet, Parallel and serial interfaces; PXI and VXI extensions can also be readily supported.
