Continuum
Photonics, a supplier of advanced photonic switch
products, Agilent Technologies, a global leader
in communications test equipment, and EdenTree
Technologies, a provider of test automation solutions,
today announced their plan to demonstrate an integrated
optical test solution at OFC/NFOEC 2005. Attendees
in Anaheim will be able to visually identify and
change test equipment configurations in Boston,
experience automated test, and interpret test
data results remotely. The demonstration will
take place in Continuums booth #2233, during
the exhibition hours Tuesday March 8 through Thursday
March 10.
DirectLight®
IG switches from Continuum are scalable, non-blocking
optical switches, transparent to protocol and
line rate, and ideal for physical and protocol
layer testing and automation in manufacturing
production and lab environments. The Connect_ET®
lab management application from EdenTree is an
easy-to-use application allowing laboratory configurations
to be quickly created, stored, retrieved, scheduled,
and automatically connected, through local or
remote control of switches such as the DirectLight
switch. Agilent offers a wide range of optical
test and measurement solutions to shorten time-to-market
and reduce cost-of-test for customers in development
and manufacturing. The three companies have partnered
to demonstrate the power and ease of integrating
test equipment with Physical Layer connectivity
tools, to enable dramatic productivity gains in
a wide range of optical test applications.
The
demonstration is a real example of a lab configuration
involving both parametric and protocol testing,
and can be used to represent typical tests needed
by component and module manufacturers, product
design and verification teams, or service providers.
The test will consist of multiple optical devices
under test (DUTs), a Continuum DirectLight optical
switch, and a suite of Agilent test equipment,
including the 8167 mainframe, 81663A DFB laser
and power meter, Agilent N2X multi-services tester,
86100C digital communications analyzer (DCA-J).
EdenTrees Connect_ET® client/server
software will remotely reconfigure test set-ups
among all of the devices, using the DirectLight
switch to establish the optical path, and control
power to the devices. Using EdenTrees product
and Agilents N2X multi-services tester,
users in Anaheim will be able to control all of
the equipment located at Continuum to power cycle
equipment, query and set connectivity (switch
maps) between various equipment ports, conduct
tests, and view test results.
This
is a very simple, but powerful example of integration
between our respective products, and highlights
the value that can be delivered to the user through
automation of the physical layer connectivity
and proper test management, states Aaron
Bent, Continuums vice president of marketing.
The ease with which we can integrate physical
layer connectivity tools with Agilent equipment,
the industry standard in optical test, means we
can address virtually any application from manufacturing
test to carrier acceptance testing.
EdenTree
is committed to offering our customers an operating
system that can manage and automate multiple aspects
of network labs, including physical layer connectivity,
multi-user scheduling, and remote control,
says Roberta Gonzalez, EdenTrees vice president
of marketing. We are pleased to work with
Continuum and Agilent to integrate our software
with their products, providing a powerful test
environment that can dramatically increase productivity
over existing manual or semi-automated approaches.
This shows how easy it is to control Agilents
N2X multi-services tester remotely enabling laboratories
to utilize equipment 24 hours a day with test
experts in other locations operating the equipment,
says Ronnie Neil, Transport Segment Manager of
Agilents Data Networks Division. This
protects customers investment in their equipment
and will also save customers time and money
- speeding time to market without compromising
on the thoroughness of testing
